Javelin Park – Waste-to-Energy Facility

14.8.24

Javelin Park is a new state of the art, waste to energy facility and was fully commissioned into service in 2019.

Besides the net reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions of at least 26,500 tonnes each year, as compared with continued landfilling, 90% of Gloucester county’s residual waste is processed to produce 14.5 MW of electricity and has the potential for heat offtake, metals for recycling and production of sustainable aggregates.

The protection of plant, processing and electrical rooms from fire is an essential component to business continuity, hence the installation of FirePro fire suppression technology.

At the time of tendering the project, FirePro UK were invited to support the team at GBE Converge, a UK multi discipline specialist contractor who provide expert, independent and bespoke Fire, Security and IT Solutions. Their constant mission is to provide their clients with quality project delivery, value and product innovation. GBE successfully won and delivered the project under budget and on time.

FirePro UK’s policy of full support and commitment to all distributors, comes as standard, including product induction training, as well as desk top and physical on-site guidance in the manufacturer’s requirements for product design, installation & commissioning of the systems.

Originally a high-pressure gas suppression system was specified for all areas. This would have resulted in hundreds of high-pressure cylinders being installed around a very busy construction site and then subsequent operating environment. GBE Converge recognised the benefits of offering FirePro as an alternate to the professional team, and could provide numerous significant advantages, meaning without cylinders or pipework, floor footprint sacrifice was not necessary, speed of installation was faster, cap-ex and lifetime op-ex cost are also lower.

FirePro now protects various plant rooms, including one of the largest LV rooms in the UK to be protected with FirePro but just like every other system, the system was simple to design and install.

The GBE design and installation team were regularly visited at agreed intervals by the FirePro UK support team for the duration of the project from start to successful completion and handover to the full satisfaction of all parties involved.

“We openly welcome prospective clients due diligence on the FirePro product, as besides suitable product test certification evidence, we are keen to ensure that the client is served with the right fire suppression product for the risk they wish to protect.” - Peter Blandon Technical & QA Manager FirePro UK
