Eurostar is the high-speed rail service directly linking Britain to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. It started operating in 1994, providing city centre to city centre high speed passenger transit services. Eurostar is the dominant operator on the routes that it operates, carrying more passengers than all airlines combined.
Why FirePro®?
The client required to supplement the existing point automatic fire detection and alarm system installed in the track side REB rooms, also, upgrade the engineering configuration to include a local automatic fire detection and fire suppression system bespoke for the standby battery enclosures, as well as introduce a room flood fire suppression system solution.
Utilising the FirePro Sigma XT control and the FPC-2 for local cabinet protection, the engineering configuration could be set to the clients bespoke requirements. The materials logistics using FirePro® fire suppression eliminated the risk of transporting pressurised cylinders by a live track side.
Risks Involved & Consequences
Eurostar holds an unrivalled reputation for safety and service punctuality. The protection of the vital equipment infrastructure is paramount to both, therefore consequences of outage caused by fire must be minimised by employing reliable and efficient fire protection systems.
Results of Implementation
The client now has a bespoke solution with self contained in cabinet fire detection utilising linear heat detection cable, directly linked to the FPC-2 local control panel. There was no disruption to operations throughout the installation. This system operates independently of the room flood protection which is linked to various ancillary signalling for remote alert.
